This Saturday, 3rd September 2022, we do battle with our neighbours Old Meadonians for the Eric Young Trophy for the 10th time with Civil seeking to retain the trophy for the first time.
Every season since 2013 we have competed for the trophy, not even a global pandemic could stop the two clubs starting their season's off in the usual way. 2021 saw Civil's most convincing win to follow up victories in the inaugural competition and in 2019.
However, it is Old Meadonians who have held the balance of power over the last decade with 6 wins, including five on the bounce from 2014 to 2018.
Our little corner of West London is a hotbed of multi-team football clubs and Dave Terry of Old Meadonians had the idea of spicing up pre season with a tournament where the two neighbouring clubs would compete across all their sides. Civil gladly accepted the invitation and it's now the weekend that signals the start of the season proper as we compete for silverware. Eric Young was a stalwart of Old Meadonians and an active member for 60 years before he passed away in 2011, the trophy we compete for was named after Eric in recognition of his service to Old Meadonians and amateur football.
This season will see 7 games take place with the first kick off at 12pm and the last kicking off at 3.30pm with games hosted at both club grounds. Players from all 10 of our men's teams will be involved across the 7 sides we put out. There will also be a little extra spice this season as Old Meadonians have made the switch to the Southern Amateur League from the Amateur Football Combination leagues so we'll be seeing more of each other during the main season.
